I’m at the audiologist. My hearing has significantly deteriorated since I was here last and I now need hearing aids in BOTH ears instead of just my left and have “moderate” hearing loss - degraded from “mild.”

I’m sharing this because we have to normalize sharing these things.
When we hide these things, we contribute to a culture of ableism.

Also, when I can’t read your lips bc of a mask, I REALLY struggle to understand. So do millions of hearing impaired people. On sets w/ visors, it’s harder. Be kind & patient. You don’t know who may be struggling.
I’m SO LUCKY that I can afford hearing aids. They’re insanely expensive. I’m also so lucky that my union’s health plan covers hearing loss. God bless the WGA. It shouldn’t be this way. Whether or not we can hear shouldn’t be a privilege based on income/quality of insurance.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
