Look I have to say - people who have higher levels of education have been hoodwinked into believing that rational argument is the most potent way to change minds & influence people, and it's just not true. People are influenced by central members of their identity group.

The only reason those of us who value "reason" do so because the groups we identify with do. Much harder to do so if you have been born or inducted into a cult. Also, all sorts of specious arguments can be made to look valid by changing base assumptions.

Fighting isn't important. Changing minds is.

Okay - maybe fighting is important. But fighting over trivial stuff is a huge distraction & a waste of energy. Changing minds is ultimately more important.

Sorry. That's my gasp of frustration for the day on how incredibly stupid the world has become.
