THIS DRIVES ME FUCKING INSANE https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/05/nyregion/coronavirus-medical-debt-hospitals.html
it shouldn't take journalists to shame hospitals and they never have any excuse; time and time again a journalist writes this story about a hospital's debt collection and they drop it at once. if you can't defend it don't fucking do it in the first place
i'm gonna get banned from this website if I say any more about what I think about the people who do this. if you're a lawyer for a hospital and you spend your days suing working-class patients you are GOING TO HELL
it's fucking disgusting, the absolute sliminess of it. just grasping for any dollars they can for as long as they can get away with it, right up until the point the new york times calls, and then they just drop it like a hot burrito. "what, this? oh we're not doing that anymore"
final point: if you're gonna cry about how the system simply FORCES you to do this (it doesn't) because of your poor revenues, I have a great solution for you. it's called single-payer
someone in this thread wondered what this hospital system, made infamous this week for how it sues its patients, spends on lobbying. so I tried to find out, semi-successfully. read here: https://www.sicknote.co/p/one-hospital-systems-big-lobbying
bottom line: it's enough to pay for hundreds of patients' bills. when a hospital sues patients to cover its debts, it's worth thinking about the lobbyists whose pockets they're lining at the same time.
and finally, if you like this sort of reporting and you have the means, consider subscribing to sick note. it's 20% off right now and you're supporting my ability to keep covering this stuff. thank you http://sicknote.co/launch
