Another week, another set of jobs without required salary disclosure on the @SmartNonprofits job board, 170 days after their announcement of their stated organizational value of equity and transparency. Guess the start of a new year makes no difference to them. https://twitter.com/BreeMinneapolis/status/1343928150011473922
Traditionally not many jobs get posted between December 20-January 5, due to the convergence of holidays as well as in some cases the end of a budget year. But this week, there were still 10 jobs without salary information.
Repeat offenders:
- @AeonMN - 1 (Disappointing to see them back on the list after the emails I'd exchanged with them!)
- @StOlaf - 1 (Also disappointing, as last week they'd posted correctly!)
- @YouthLinkMN - 1
- @GoodwillMN - 2
- @AinDahYungCtr - 2
New offenders:
- @KidsInNeed - 1
-Camphill Village Minnesota - 2
Camphill Village had some bs about "we do not use a traditional salary to compensate but instead provide a comfortable lifestyle and address financial needs on a person-to-person basis," which at first seems illegal as hell. But then when you research the org,
it turns out it's specifically for people with disabilities, which I guarantee means they pay less than minimum wage. Most people don't realise it, but section 14c of the Fair Labor Standards Act allows employers to pay people with disabilities subminimum wages,
WHICH IS SOME ABLEIST GODDAMNED BULLSHIT.

@JoeBiden pledged to end that crap but I guess we shall see.
But there's yet another example of why salary transparency is crucial for reducing salary disparities, and why companies who try to avoid disclosing salary info may fairly be assumed to be shady-ass places that treat their employees poorly.
Again, this checking took me five minutes - it took me longer to write these tweets than it did to look for organizations flaunting the @SmartNonprofits salary disclosure policy. It's fair to conclude at this point that they don't really care about it, and their implementation
was largely for show to get some publicity. Shame on them for not putting their money where their mouth is on this. Calls into question any of their other stated values as an organization and what it means to be a nonprofit member of such an organization.
FWIW: I never heard back from @Canvas_Health about their weird $9.86/hour jobs.
