Excellent update email as ever from @TorstenBell today. Women are 2x as likely to have cut hours in order to home school. Thanks, patriarchy. cc. @rachelcoldicutt @ukglo @CassieRobinson
I know there are some excellent men out there who are shouldering the burden too, so big clap if that's you. But what I want to hear about is how employers are pro-actively encouraging workers (esp men who we need to support to do more care) to juggle kids and work and sanity.
An element of the problem is that many mums work part-time and we just don't take take p-t work seriously in the UK. We've always tried to challenge that at @LittleVillageHQ - no one on the team works full-time and we are determined to create part time jobs with purpose.
But too often p-t work is treated as dispensable, or secondary in importance to someone's full-time job. SO: if you're a parent who works full time, or earns more, don't assume your part-time working partner (if you have one) can pick up all the slack...
... And if you're an employer who wants to know how we have supported our team during this lockdown and the last one to continue working AND care/homeschool for their kids, drop me a line. It is possible.
