Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail says county has already started vaccinating some people in phase 1B - a 'soft opening' for law enforcement, firefighters. Said last Wednesday, only had 40 appointments when can do 350 a day. So they moved to other groups
Vail says some factors include the holidays - people wanting to wait until after to get vaccinated - & places not wanting all their employees vaccinated at once in case they get sick for a day. Still vaccinating 1A but pace has allowed move to 1B
Vail says even among her own staff at the Ingham County Health Department, 60% want to be vaccinated. 30-40% are declining ...
Vail says at this stage, doctor's offices don't have the vaccine. It's at health departments, hospitals & pharmacy (pharmacies being used to get vaccines to nursing homes)
Vail says Ingham County is looking to triple vaccinations to 1,000 a day next week. Asked about state's low rate nationally, she wonders if numbers are accurate. Says numbers for Ingham aren't accurate on various dashboards, for instance.
