i remember telling people that festivals weren’t gonna happen last year and people were so mad at me for being “negative” but then i ended up handling quarantine mentally much better than a lot of them bc i adjusted to my current reality & they were constantly disappointed
being realistic isn’t the same thing as being defeatist and i think constantly trying to look for a way out instead of just living in the situation we’re in led to a lot of misery for people as well as going to unsafe events where a lot of them got sick
there’s actually a good amount of research that shows that people who survive disasters and horrific situations are ones who learned to embrace their current reality & look for joy within it. this pandemic is not almost over & pretending that it is will make life more unbearable
i hope that this year, instead of waiting for normal life to return and being repeatedly crushed when it doesn’t, people embrace what they *can* do & find joy and fulfillment in new activities and interests. you can really get to know & love yourself, which will help you forever
