Catholic-related podcasts, blogs, and social media are great things that I deeply appreciate, but does anybody else get the feeling that they’re always trying to identify and solve problems? I feel like sometimes we treat the Church as something with problems we have to ‘fix’.
And don’t get me wrong, we sure do have problems that need to be addressed. But when you have a podcast and every episode is about how x y and z are wrong with the Church and here are my practical solutions, doesn’t that attitude seem inconsistent with the fact that the Church...
...is the Mystical Body of Christ, being led by the Holy Spirit? Our sinful nature means the Church will always have problems. Solve one and a new one will come. I want to try to appreciate the Church as it is today for what it is than look at it as a set of problems to solve.
And I don’t think my problem is with Catholics of good will trying to make the situation better. I think my problem is that tons of Catholics now think they’re the problem-solver-people and then we all listen to all their podcasts and read their blog posts etc
And this is not prompted by any particular person or podcast or blog or social media, it’s just some thoughts I’ve been thinking for a long while.
