This last year was undoubtedly difficult for all of us. We’re thankful for our staff, our riders, and endlessly thankful for our front line employees for keeping New York moving.

Despite these challenges, here are 20 things we’re proud of from 2020.
1- Our state-of-the-art contactless payment system OMNY, is now available on every bus and in every subway station. Even more OMNY products are coming your way this year, so stay tuned!
2- The stunning new Moynihan Train Hall is now open for @LIRR customers and we opened Phase I of the East End Gateway project, an iconic new entrance and direct connection from street level to the LIRR concourse at Penn Station.
3- We made an additional 11 stations fully ADA accessible this year, making 135 total. And we’re not going to stop there. We are moving forward on federally funded ADA projects and working on innovative new ways we can make the system more accessible in the next few years.
4- In July we launched the Mask Force, volunteer teams that hand out masks to anyone who needs one. We’ve handed out 400,000 masks to date. 👏

In November, Mask Force went regional! @PATHTrain, @NJTransit, @Amtrak, and @SEPTA have mask forces of their own.
5- Our talented design team put together one of America’s best COVID social distancing campaigns reminding you to wear a mask and spread out when possible—and we hope it made you smile.
6- @LIRR became the first railroad in North America to show real-time seat capacity in a new update to the Train Time app. And this year, @MetroNorth and @NYCTBus unveiled similar features. It’s another tool to help our customers spread out where possible.
7- Franklin Av and President St stations were renamed after Medgar Evers College, to honor the civil rights hero for whom the school is named and the role the institution plays in the community.
8- We completed the L train tunnel rehabilitation ahead of schedule and under budget—nearly 4 months earlier than planned. And as an added bonus, AT&T and Verizon customers now have LTE in the tunnels between Bedford Av and 1st Av. https://twitter.com/MTA/status/1254455678787297281
9- @MetroNorth and @LIRR completed implementation of Positive Train Control, an advanced commuter rail safety technology that helps prevent accidents by automatically slowing trains that exceed speed limitations. https://twitter.com/LIRR/status/1341824069667344386
11- We became the first transit agency in North America to pilot innovative air filtration technology and are partnering with DHS to evaluate best practices for continuing to eliminate viruses and keep our customers and colleagues safe.
12- We released the new MTA Bridges and Tunnels Tolls NY app in partnership with @PANYNJ and @NYSThruway to help you manage your EZ Pass and pay tolls at MTA crossings.
13- Through our Stuff-a-Bus campaign, our employees collected 5,301 pounds of food to help feed hungry New Yorkers over the holiday season. It was the largest single donation to @CityHarvest of the year!
14- Out of 97 New York State agencies and public authorities, the MTA ranks number one in dollars paid to New York City-certified Minority-and-Women-Owned Businesses. This represents nearly 30 percent of all State-issued contracts.
15- We're piloting a new app for blind & low vision bus riders along the M23-SBS route.

@NaviLens uses next generation QR codes to help customers find bus stops and get real-time bus arrival info.
16- We used low ridership during COVID to accelerate $2B in construction projects around the system. Some you can see (like the renovated mezz at Grand Central-42 St) and some you can’t (like the rebuilt switches on the 4th Av line and critical track replacement at Archer Av).
17- The trains are cleaner than they’ve ever been, thanks to our enhanced disinfecting regimen.

Watch how we use state-of-the-art technology to keep our system clean and safe.
18- We launched several internal health and safety programs to help keep employees and their families as safe as possible.

We’ve given more than 15K COVID tests to employees and our Temperature Brigade has performed over 1 million temperature scans to date.
19- The LIRR Expansion Project is ahead of schedule and under budget. This year we eliminated 5 rail crossings, rebuilt bridges, and constructed switches and substations. We’re building a third track on the LIRR Main Line between Hicksville & Floral Park. https://www.amodernli.com/project/thirdtrack/
20- These baby peregrine falcons make their home atop our Marine Parkway–Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge each spring! The DEP gives them tracking band bracelets so they can be safely monitored.
