I've now finished Dark Nights: Death Metal, and I have some thoughts.

A Thread:
I've largely been negative on this series and this finale really did nothing to change that. In the end, this was all very meaningless and ended up being a shoehorned way to try and change DC continuity AGAIN.

But this has already rendered FUTURE STATE completely meaningless
They basically say "Oh it's just a wild vision that we may or may not use any of" which turns FS immediately into another CONVERGENCE.

DC hired a bunch of new talent and the solicits show that most of them aren't on any new books. I'll wait and see, but it seems like a waste
As for this finale, it was EXTREMELY overwritten. Snyder just wrote it like a novel and tried to cram in weight and bombast to everything, but made the action feel totally dead. Also, Capulo feels like he's on autopilot. Just big rocks and explosions.
None of the character beats matter here because everything is restored off panel and the entire event is waved away. It feels like a big "who cares?" by the end. DC just wants to get to Future State, but even that is meaningless now, so where are we even going?
In the end, this issue is all meaningless platitudes meant to feel inspiring but really feeling like nothing. If the multiverse ends, then is reborn, and then all history matters, but it's all a vision, and now it's a multiverse of multiverses, does ANYTHING MATTER?
Find a lane, find a metaphor, determine the meaning of your story, and stick to it.

Death Metal was just trying to smash readers in the face for no reason and seem cool. It wasn't cool. It wasn't even really dumb fun because Snyder try to make it feel uber important in the end.
I hope DC can springboard into something more interesting, because the lead-up to Death Metal and the self-styled importance of it all has led nowhere.

This event will likely be forgotten. It's not as fun as Metal, it's not as risky as Doomsday Clock, and it's barely relevant.
