Here's a thread about a record I discovered last month. That cover photo caught my eye. Then I spotted it was on Berserkley, which piqued my interest. Plus it was only £2.50 and in fine condition. So I had to have it. But who is Mrs Green? (THREAD 1 of 5)
It turns out that Mrs Green were a three-piece band from California, but for some reason this album was only released in the UK (on vinyl) and in Germany (on CD). It was produced in 1987 by Berserkley founder Matthew King Kaufman. But what does it sound like? (THREAD 2 of 5)
I could find virtually nothing about the band online - no blogposts and nothing on YouTube etc. So I digitised some tracks and put them in this playlist. They really remind me of Newcastle's finest Hurrah!, which has got to be a good thing (Thread 3 of 5) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq7YVAStYYmkKaxy6G-9PhPZTkYAspYIa
Mrs Green released nothing apart from this LP. Digging deeper, I discovered that their bassist, vocalist and main songwriter was David Hillman Curtis, the nephew of Byrds bassist Chris Hillman. He went on to be a pioneer in web design (THREAD 4 of 5) https://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/21/technology/hillman-curtis-a-pioneer-in-web-design-dies-at-51.html
The band apparently toured the UK with The Chills, so perhaps someone remembers seeing them? I've been trying to identify the location for the cover photos, which I'm guessing were taken in the UK? Can @new_brutalism @BrutalHouse @BarnabasCalder @subtopian help? (THREAD 5 of 5)
In case anyone is interested, there are a few copies going cheap on Discogs
