🔎A short analysis thread on the clear issues with the right side of Liverpool's build-up play, during their 1-0 loss to Southampton:
LFC's build-up down their left side was as potent as ever - the only thing missing from the attacking moves down this side was the final ball
But the issues came down the right for several reasons:

1. Absence of a ball-carrying CB (Gomez/Matip) to open up the field & increase the build-up options - this invited Southampton's press onto Liverpool, often onto Trent, which forced him to pass long and surrender possession
This pattern of play happened on several occasions
2. Salah's movement into more advanced areas & Ox not showing for the ball in between the lines, which left Trent with limited build-up options - again forcing him to pass long and surrender possession.

Trent passed to Salah just 4 times & 4 passes to Ox in Southampton's half
This changed with Shaqiri on in the 2nd half who offered a passing option in between the lines on the right hand side - he created 2 chances in his sub appearance
3. However, there were still occasions where Trent still chose the wrong option to go too long & surrendered possession, which may have contributed to Klopp's decision to sub him off on 77 minutes
Solutions

A) Buying a CB who is comfortable at carrying the ball out the back & breaking lines - Matip & Fabinho can do it, but with Gomez & VVD out, LFC now need another due to Matip's injury record
B) A change of shape to a 4-4-2/4-2-3-1 with Shaqiri or Minamino (then Jota when fit) to give Liverpool more build-up options down the right hand side, especially whilst Trent is suffering this dip in form with his passing radar
