Just planned my first virtual maths lessons. It will be pre recorded not live, but here’s a few things I’ve done with the aim of making the learning more accessible for my students.
1) Started with a recap topic - this means the content being taught his something the students have done before. It shouldn’t be completely new to them. I hope this gives the students a sense of... YES, I CAN DO THIS 💪🏾
2) Limit recording to 10 mins - I don’t want my class to be put off by a 60min video. I thought what needs to be recorded? Me talking through the topic and modelling how to solve questions. So this is all I’ve recorded!!!
3) Quiz & prize - everyone loves a quiz and they love prizes even more. Instead of having an extra couple of slides, I changed this to a quiz using Microsoft Forms. It’s literally a mini quiz with 3 simple questions. Prize is for 3 correct answers in quickest time 🍫🍬
4) Independent work - the final thing I done is set some additional questions with varying difficulty levels via MathsWatch. This allows students to go away and complete work at there own pace. Using not only my pre-recorded video to support but also the MathsWatch ones 🙌🏾👏🏾
5) Communicate clear plan to students - what they can expect from me & what I expect from them (knowing your students circumstances is crucial). I will have the same consistent structure and communicate any changes/new plans clearly (unlike Boris😅)
