just read #BeanDad's apology blog post and i have some thoughts. at first it seems somewhat genuine, but mostly (like all "apologies" that come in this fashion) it seemed to be simply excuses.
claiming the racist & anti-semitic tweets were actions from his past that came from misunderstanding & that they were meant to be used in sarcasm/jokes about people who "really think like that" is a bold move when several of those tweets have timestamps set as recently as 2020.
beyond that, there was one slur in particular that I at the very least, as a white goy, had the privilege of never having heard of before, so my question to #BeanDad about that is this:
what about your life has lead to you learning anti-semitic dogwhistles well enough to "use them sarcastically", without being aware that it's not your place?
in the end, he did seem to indicate that he would be continuing to deplatform himself on social media, which is a step in the right direction, but if he is taking this seriously, this should honestly include his podcast, which didn't seem to be the case.
tl;dr - the apology is not enough and isn't really worth reading unless you really want to for some reason. it felt more like a desperate attempt to save face rather than a real attempt to actually reckon with the hurt he's caused.
