I’m disappointed by the lack of empathy in this @arindube tweet, and in the replies it generated.

The thread is especially disappointing since the posters surely know about research into the impacts of graduating into a terrible job market. @MarkCurti has a nice thread in response about these costs and the value of more research to understand them. https://twitter.com/MarkCurti/status/1346151181756862464
And if we want a green energy transition, engaging folks like those profiled in the article has to be part of that. Belittling them because they made an expectational error when they chose their college major isn’t going to help.
This is also personal to me, as I was fortunate to get my career started in the industry 20 years ago. A lot of my friends from that time have shifted out, but many remain. I know @arindube’s tweet was part in jest, but it’s hard for me to not feel upset by it.
