...descent & threatened to beat her. He told a Persian man, “I am sick of you people,” and used racial slurs against African-Americans."

If you are white, consider that there are people in your close circles who might be racist & violent towards minorities, just not around you.
I'm going to say it again.

Sometimes the people who are violent towards persons of marginalized communities, whether physically, financially, professionally, emotionally, etc - sometimes they are the most upstanding person in front of *you*.

Not believing us is not neutral.
For example

Of all ppl dismissed (fired) from residency in 2015, over 20% were Black in surg, peds, IM, anes.

Only 4% of all residents are Black. https://twitter.com/londyloo/status/1332420069377404928?s=19
Not believing trainees when they raise concerns about specific individuals or dismissing those concerns bc that person has never been racist / misogynistic / homophobic / Islamophobic *around you* is to dismiss a very legitimate violence.

This is how professional lives are lost.
The police in Tennessee dismissed (ie failed to properly investigate) a woman's claim that her boyfriend was building a bomb in her RV.

Turns out, her boyfriend *WAS* building a bomb in an RV.

If a minority trainee comes to you & says that a colleague of yours is discriminating
It is your obligation to consider that perhaps someone who behaves one way around you might behave differently around someone who, well, isn't you.

Violence isn't just a literal bullet to the physical head.

It can be professional sabotage.

Poor performance review.

Black list.
