Every year we run a report to see the most borrowed items in the library. Picture, if you will, our surprise to find the key for locker DA03 was our 5th most borrowed item of 2020.

We weren't angry, just disappointed. But then we thought about this a bit more...
Locker DA03 was the locker a Law student used when they were studying late to meet their assignment deadline. It was the same locker used by a PhD student on the day they attended their Viva, and by a student who was trying to find that book with the red cover by 'whatsherface'.
It was used by a commuting student who needed a safe place to study in the library after a lecture, and by the student who used the library when their WiFi went down at home. It was also very popular with a student who just had to do some last minute printing.
It was a life saver for the student who visited the library to avoid their noisy neighbours and study in peace, and it was also used by a student who left a sandwich in there. We don't like to talk about that anymore.

Eventually we came to a realisation...
It’s not our books who tell the most important stories, it’s our users
