Anime and manga has a pedophilia issue. There's no getting around that, both in Japan and in English-speaking territories (and probably others if we're honest). I think it's important to both examine why, and to think about how best to eliminate this issue in future.
People of this sickening inclination seem to find themselves feeing safe in these communities, and much as punks and furries have had to do with nazis, we need to kick these fuckers to the curb. Hard.
It would be easy to *just* blame the obvious, the content that most resembles their desires, loli stuff, shota stuff, you know. But I don't think that's ALL of it.
Ya have to think about cult of personality, about people encouraging parasocial bonds so that you THINK they're fine
A voice actor doing the con circuit, a youtuber presenting a version of themselves, the sorts of positions where people can be encouraged to think of them a certain way, as a friendly face, as an entertainer. Once you form that false bond it's harder to see who they are.
It's important to take a step back sometimes and realise you don't know someone, and to ask yourself why they want you to think that you do. Keeping that instinct may seem cynical at first, but it's worth keeping in mind.
If you have a bad feeling about someone, some red flags coming up, trust that feeling until proven otherwise.
More red flags? Don't be afraid to mention it to others you trust.
If you can, be outspoken about what's not okay in your circles. Call out people when you think it's needed. If you see a way, be the change you want to see.
I want to reemphasise that this isn't *just* about people who work in the industry on anime and manga. Dylan Kielman wasn't that long ago. People using community structure to do terrible shit is an issue on every level of this community.
