Alright, let's watch some Hawks/Knicks.
Hawks go with a double drag in transition, Capela slips and Collins pops. Good read from Trae Young here. Randle is in a drop. Young keeps Payton behind him, keeps Randle engaged and then fires to Collins for an open 3. Bends the defense.
Hawks go back to the same action, Knicks do a better job guarding. You seen Young sees three defenders around him as he comes off, weakside helps on the roll. Good stunt by Payton on the DHO. Robinson works to get to the level on two P&R and ends with a block. Multiple efforts.
Pistol action from the Knicks and they get to that low side P&R that's been hurting defenses. You see Capela is dropped back in the paint, ends up staying with Robinson on the roll. Hunter helps at the nail to stop the drive, great cut by Barrett. As soon as Hunter stayed he cut.
You see what the slips from John Collins can do to a defense here. Looks like a screen for Young but he slips right away into the pocket. Randle is dropping back to stay with the roll as Young penetrates but that's too much room to give him
A couple things for the Hawks here. This is a play Young has to see. Comes off the double drag and Robinson is in a drop...but he's dropping to protect the roll the whole way, never engages the ball and gets a piece of the lob. That's a shot.
(also Bogdanovic's late cut brings his man right into Capela rolling. sometimes if you're late you just have to hold. spacing was set up pretty well.)
There's been a patience to Julius Randle's game early this year. Feels like he's getting to his spots and getting the shots he wants as opposed to just forcing plays. Back down or face up he's initiating contact and going up.
Elfrid Payton has been playing some good basketball for the Knicks of late. Defending, getting in the paint offensively. Better than I expected.
Good action from the Hawks and good stuff from Huerter here. Hard cut creates separation, when he gets the handoff he sees Randle helping on the roll and fires to Hunter rising to the wing for a 3. Quick decision based on what the defense gives you.
Knicks do a better job guarding the action here as Bullock fights to get back in front. Collins slips are great but his slip allows to stay with him and Knox to stay home. Big time overhelp from Payton on this play, a) he's guarding Young and b) Collins popped.
Little thing here from Bullock. When he gets the handoff he keeps his man on his back. That hold allows Robinson to slow roll. Weakside is in but then recovers, Collins in a tough spot dropped back between the ball and Robinson rolling.
Not always perfect on D from the Knicks but the multiple efforts and rotations are there. Rivers helps on the roll here with Young coming off, good X-Out on the weakside. Rivers gets beat but Payton helps on the drive, Barrett closes out to his.
This is too much time and space to give Julius Randle if you're Atlanta. This shot fake, quick hit and up post move also reminds of another left handed big man.
Tough to guard this action from Atlanta. Double drag for Trae Young, the key is he attacks after the *first* screen. Usually the second big will have the P&R coverage. Able to catch Randle and finish.
Underrated action: using a shooter as a screener. Young screens for Reddish here, probably should have been a switch but Payton is worried about Young coming right off. Good pass by Collins and Reddish gets the and one.
Hawks started throwing doubles at Randle, the danger is that puts you in rotation and can open plays up for the other team. Randle does a good job of going away from the double and spinning into a pass. Two Hawks closeout to Quickley leaving Knox open.
Hawks double Randle again here, good patience by Randle to take the double and survey the floor. Skips to Quickley who swings to Knox. Attacks the closeout and passes it right back for a 3.
Trae Young is absolutely committed to drawing this foul and if the refs keep calling it I don't know what you do. You have to chase him over the top.
Hawks lost but this is encouraging from De'Andre Hunter if he can make a leap that team is in a good place. Slips the p&R right into a 3 PTR. His development into a player that can play 3 and 4 would be key.
There's a reason Immanuel Quickley was on the floor late for the Knicks. Big time play for a young guard here. Comes off the screen, sees Young helping on the roll from Robinson and fires to Rivers for a 3. Those are key plays for young guys that will check boxes off.
