Why would a client want to pay for a website when they can just code it (for "free") with:

- Shopify
- Wix
- WordPress
- WebFlow

???

Here's my answer đŸ§”đŸ‘‡
Platforms like Shopify, SquareSpace, Wix and others are great.

They make creating sites super easy and you can often get good support as well.

Who would pay someone else to create websites when they could create it themselves and save the cash?

Think of it like this:
Why do people eat out when they could eat at home?

There are so many options out there:

→ Fast-food
→ Fine-dining
→ Organic
→ Chinese
→ Indian
→ etc.

Then each sub-industry has hundreds of restaurants to choose from as well...
It’s like the guy who spends the whole day cutting the lawn so he can say he saved $80.

Many people are like this, BUT you ALSO get a lot of people who wouldn’t mind paying someone to cut their lawn for them.
You will ALWAYS get the business owners who want to use platforms like Wix, Shopify, etc. to save money.

Nothing is wrong with this

BUT you will ALWAYS get business owners who don’t want to use these platforms and don’t mind paying the cash to someone who can do it for them.
Look at Mc Donald’s 🍔

They don’t care if John goes to Burger King and Subway every day, because they know that Jane and Fred always go to Mc Donald’s every day.

Now back to the freelancing side of creating websites:

The truth is that MOST people will turn you down.
They either want to save money and do it themselves or they already have a site or they just don’t care.

You DON'T want to work with these people

Your market is out there, it’s just about finding who it is and creating your brand that attracts your ideal client.

Yes, if you are a web designer for everyone and anyone, it’s way more difficult.

If you are a web designer for:

→ Audiologists
→ Pathologists
→ Injury Lawyers
→ Plumbers
→ Tennis Coaches
→ Psychologists

i.e. a niche, then you talking about something different.
If you lay the foundation and do this properly and you adapt and stick it out, you will do well.

Summary:

đŸ”„ Present yourself as an expert in your niche and you won’t need to worry about those who go to ‘Mc Donald’s’ đŸ”„
It’s not just about the website, but rather the full marketing eco-system involved.

They can get a free website, but then what? How are they going to get clients?

And that is what you can (and should) assist with when it comes to a marketing retainer.
