Happy New Year y'all, so.... school children are back in class amidst the pandemic which ok in my opinion as long as the observe the laid down protocols. But I want to address a really important matter that has concerned me
Exclusion and lack of accommodations on disabled school children in Kenya in regards to wearing of face masks. I can tell you right now that many disabled school children are reluctant to wear masks because their bodies can't allow it
Especially autistic children who experience sensory challenges especially with certain clothing materials on their faces and this has led to parents pulling them out of schools as a result of not addressing their child's accommodations
Particularly their sensory accommodations. Even deaf students can't wear face masks as they need to lip read, surely. When will this endless nightmare of constant disability discrimination and exclusion of disabled children end?
The time to act to stop discrimination and exclusion of disabled school children is now
