Re: G’raha being ‘different’ in 5.4, as many other have noted he’s always been like that, but I feel there’s also an aspect of reveling in rediscovering his capabilities as an individual without the tower’s influence. There were multiple times in ShB when he was complimented +
For something he’d accomplished and he would immediately give his connection to the tower the credit. As the Exarch he also says that he’s not sure if he can call his body his own anymore, and overall I really got the vibe that he was struggling with his sense of self, the man +
he might be separate from the tower’s influence. For the first time in a century + he’s able to see what he can accomplish on his own, and to find that a number of his skills were actually his own and transferable between worlds must have been a pleasant surprise and +
an unexpected relief. His self worth was already improving post ShB, but this certainly helps. I’m sure there’s a part of him that struggles with what he might have to offer without the tower behind him, and that’s one reason why he’s so eager to accompany WoL and prove to +
himself and the Scions that he’s useful. On top of all that of course is that he was in a very desperate situation for a very long time, and he suffered for it, was stoic because he had to be. And as Lyna insinuates, he struggled with depression. +
So yeah, coming out from under all that, of course he’s happy and relieved, and trying to find who he is without general doom and the tower hanging over his head. And he gets to go places and travel with WoL, like he’s always wanted! More than happy to let him have this, +
to let him enjoy rediscovering his life. That said, I wonder if when some of the euphoria wears off a few things he never really coped with properly might not hit pretty hard, because he has some freedom and the prospect of comrades to speak to as equals for the first time. +
There’s so much that he’s put aside for so long, and it would be interesting to see that factoring into his future character development. I want to see WoL and the Scions supporting him, how all of their friendships develop. And of course, my boy will always be there for him <3
