It's time to take a look at the @JKenney "smartest guy in the room" strategy. /1
In order to effect the strategy, 2 political parties were gutted, a kamikaze campaign was funded, pay-to-play lobbying was initiated and voting irregularities were introduced to the leadership contest. /2
Subsequently, the leader surrounded himself with weak & inexperienced candidates and then shamelessly astro-turfed the people of Alberta during the provincial election campaign. In the aftermath of victory, /3
the UCP destroyed election propriety by eliminating the office investigating their charlatanism, showed contempt of the conflict & ethics rules, drafted a cabinet of disinterested grifters, laid waste to 40 years of legislative rules and laws, /4
decimated the economy while systematically eliminating revenue streams leading to the largest deficit in Alberta history. /5
With the advent of a pandemic the leader instructed his people to destroy labour relations, health and safety, freedom of assembly, the rights of professionals, higher education funding, community boards/committees, /6
municipal programs, the poor, the health care system and the disabled through a blizzard of omnibus bills, shredding of regulations and the suspension of parliamentary rights. /7
But people noticed. They noticed that the leader's communications strategy was expensive & secretive even while it was amateurish & ineffective. His war room can't shoot straight, his henchmen can't find evidence of the "worldwide conspiracy" to takedown Alberta oil, /8
his "issues" people cannot get beyond grade school insults even while they routinely macerate facts, science and credulity. /9
As the pandemic continues, the smartest man in the room looks less & less capable, earning comparisons of his performance with the incompetents and autocrats of places like Brazil, the US and the UK. /10
At every turn, the smartest man attempts strategies of classic propagandists, but he can never close the deal. His communications strategies are relentlessly laughable, indefensible, subject to the public's derision. /11
Who believes the goofy YouTube videos, the ridiculous web graphics, the wild claims of federal sabotage, the accusations that it's all the Opposition's fault, the machine gun tweeting of braggadocio, insult & guff. /12
When only a few saw that the emperor's clothes were comprised of his birthday suit, the veneer of "smart" remained. Now however, everyone sees it. /13
This man of so-called Jesuit demeanour is a pseudo-intellectual drop-out, a perpetual politician who has never had a private sector, professional or public service job outside of politics. /14
Kenney is the smartest man in the @UCPCaucus room, but that's not good enough. It's not a formula for studied government. It's the formula for destruction and we have to stop the nonsense. /15
