Let me explain you something about filters to eliminate all the “oh maybe they did that by accident because they’re stupid” excuses. My friends & I are just working on a thing about the “third world filter” aka “Arab filter” aka “Mexican filter” so I learned a few things...
You don’t accidentally make a photo or video darker and think of it as a lucky accident unless you’re working on a creature/horror movie. Look at all the filters you’re using on your apps, the ones named “attitude” “magic hour” “Hollywood” etc. Almost all of the popular ones...
...make your skin brighter. When I first heard this I immediately got defensive & argued with the colorist who explained this to me. I told him I’d never use a skin lightening filter, after all, I’m the one who yells at my Palestinian relatives 4 using skin brightening products
So he set up a little test. Photos of us went on a screen and we each did a round of “does this look better or worse”. All of us preferred skin brightening filters 100% (even if they seemed like they were actually darkening the photo). Because WHITE SUPREMACY AND COLORISM
