Subsidized and mandated affordable units are only one part of a humane housing policy, but it’s an important part. The approval of funding for the New Cultural Center earlier tonight will be looked back upon with appreciation. 1/4

But, Yet again, affordable housing was scrutinized in a manner not attendant to school budgets or late filed Council amendments. “Bring me a rock. No, not that one.” We support affordable housing, but not here, not like that, and not if someone doesn’t like it. 2/4

There is something patently immoral about opposing affordable housing in one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country. To do so while saying “we can’t afford it” is even harder to accept. 3/4

I entered 2021 with a view towards being more charitable with those I disagree with, and I still intend to pursue that, but I’m stumped here. It’s either unintentional hypocrisy or something worse. 3/4
