Everyone is so sure that Eric Bieniemy is going to be a great head coach. Why? Because he worshiped at the feet of Andy Reid (who is considered an offensive genius) But he doesn't call the plays? Just like Matt Nagy didn't call the plays. How has that worked out?
But there is no public outcry for Pete Carmichael Jr. to be a head coach. You casuals probably don't even know who that is. He's just the Saints OC since 2009. He's held the same position in the NFL for the better part of a decade. And helmed one of the leagues most prolific
Offenses. He doesn't call his own plays either.

My point is that we get stuck on these narratives. But we're not around these guys. We don't interview these guys. Aside from a few hours on Sunday, we never even see these guys. But we're all so sure we know what's best.
I remember when Mike Tomlin was hired in Pittsburgh. I thought it was a mistake, but he's turned out to be one of the best coaches in the league. Same with John Harbaugh, who went from Special Teams coach to one of the best coaches in pro ball.
I hope Bieniemy gets a shot and he's great. But it's far from a sure thing.

Just remember, Winning the press conference isn't what's most important. Not having another one in three years, is.
