the problem with philosophy as a major isn't that they study philosophy, but that so many do not practice it
the stereotypical philosophy major is one that uses philosophy as a means to dominate others intellectually while remaining blind to the benefits of living a good, useful life
They often seek meaning in books through the tyranny of rationale and knowing when this is the very problem, that instead of doing, instead of building, they persuade themselves that some hidden piece of knowledge will finally turn the key that unlocks deep meaningful content
I really enjoy books. I consume a lot of books

But if, for one second, you think they include an answer to your problems, you are misled
Books CAN help resolve small contradictions in one's mind, this is true, perhaps you will eventually construct a useful framework from your menagerie of ideas

but the problem was never those small discomforts
The problem is, of course, that we have deceived ourselves into thinking that once we get what we want we will be happy, that pleasure is somehow the panacea to existential dread and meaninglessness

nope
Meaning is derived through doing, especially through doing with and for other people in a way that best uses your inclinations, the things you already enjoy doing

this is the sustainable flywheel of generosity
I will continue to enjoy books and I will continue to study philosophy

but doing so to fill a perceived weakness in status or to better argue in order to gain status is corrupting
In all its tiny beauties, what is the universe calling me to do?

How can I do a little good today?

How can I live a life in which I agree with every of my actions?
I don't know, but
I can better figure it out in time

through building trust in my intuition and my actions

by doing what I admire in each moment
