Information is crucial, let’s hold our emotions and reserve our judgment until we understand things better. I had to remind myself about this too.

Some questions to the PNP and media:

Why release incomplete details to the public?
Do we know if the men who are already in police custody have lawyers?
If so, why are they silent about the whole thing?
Is there a CCTV at the hotel? How did the police identify all those involved?
To the men named in the progress report, why didn’t you come forward asap?
It’s been a number of days since your friend’s death, why are you not speaking up?
Did the media do enough to get the suspects’ side of the story?
Rule of thumb to reporters, always get all sides of the party involved as much as possible. If it’s not allowed at the moment, be transparent.

“Sinubukan namin kunin ang pahayag ng mga suspek pero hindi sila pumayag,” would suffice.
There is more to the story than we know so far.

PNP should be more sensitive in handling this case, and media entities must be extra careful in corroborating information.
Let’s be cautious with the things we read, with the news we consume, and with the information we get.

One mistake could cost another person’s life.
Also, as journalists it is our responsibility to scrutinize every little detail and to challenge claims when we see it.

Hindi porke naglabas ng statement, ipa-parrot na natin ng basta basta. Nasaan ang journalistic pursuit doon?
With a lot of questions left unanswered, no Chief Sinas, this case is far from “solved.”
I hope it’s clear as day that we all demand justice for Christine, and real justice that is based on facts and truth.
