If your startup is greater than ~50 employees and you haven't implemented product reviews for each major product initiative, you should stop what you're doing and implement them now. There are a few reasons why 👇
Major product initiatives (1) have the most uncertainty (2) require the most coordination (3) have the greatest aperture for strategic misalignment (4) are most essential to the ongoing success of your company...
As a result, a simple tool such as product reviews can be implemented to (1) minimize uncertainty (2) establish and maintain regular coordination (3) give execs the opportunity to provide regular strategic guidance (4) ensure that what you ship is likely to produce results...
Here's a recommended format if you're interested in implementing them.

- 45 minutes max
- repeat weekly or bi-weekly
- focus on show-and-tell of the latest prototype in dev
- carve out time to discuss risks and decisions to make
- laptops and phones down to focus
Some pitfalls to avoid that are indicative of poor product reviews

- focus on powerpoint presentation instead of live demos
- exec feedback is critical instead of educational
- feedback is in the weeds instead of strategic
- too many people in the room with laptops open
If someone doesn't want to do product reviews, they don't belong at your startup. Send them to Google or Facebook where they can build in an obscure corner of the company where no one cares to review their product. Or, they should actually be a founder and do their own thing.
