analyzing why the high republic jedi are so much more glamorous then tcw era jedi: an unnecessary thread
the easy answer? the jedi are sort of, let’s just say, not as big as they were before, so the high republic is sort of their prime. this gives the writers and artists more freedom to make them more interesting and fancy than tcw era.
the short answer? if we’re talking strictly fancy robes and flashy sabers, fashion evolves over time, and even if it’s a gradual process, fashion can change a LOT. nowadays we have more muted fashion that isn’t so complicated as past decades and centuries.
the long answer? like i said, fashion is a slow and gradual evolution. let’s compare this with real world fashion so you can see what i mean.

the high republic ended 82 BBY (50 years before TPM) and began 300 BBY, giving us 218 years. the current real world year minus
two centuries plants us in the 1800s, and i don’t think it takes a genius to figure out that 19th century fashion is MUCH different from today’s fashion. examples below: regency era fashion plates (early 1800s). first ca 1808, second ca 1810, third ca 1812.
and some men’s fashion plates as well! first ca 1814, second ca 1816, third and fourth ca 1807
i can’t go over all of the 19th century here because so much change happened during this time period. every decade was very different, so i just stuck with early regency era fashion above since it’s some of my favorite. these overviews aren’t perfect, but they give you
a pretty good idea of the 19th century (credit in pics).

and since the jedi and their clothing were based off japanese culture, here’s some japanese 19th century fashion plates as well. note: these arent regency era like the previous ones. first and second ca 1888. last two are victorian era WESTERN gowns with japanese influence, ca
1870 and 1885.
so in conclusion: fashion evolves and can tone down or get crazier. you can’t stop the hands of time, and fashion is forever. i hope you enjoyed this! it’s a bit of a mess but i had fun thinking way too deep into it lmaooo
