An anarchist critique of not only schools, but nursing homes, "workshops" for people with disabilities, and group homes is desperately needed. These institutions often abuse already marginalized populations. It's important to note the link between ableism and ageism as well.
Anarchist critique of schools is fairly well established, Anarkismus had a thread which I will link. It's also important to note the double/triple oppression of indigenous children and/or children with disabilities. https://twitter.com/Anarkismus_/status/1329561465599250451?s=20
Workshops for people with disabilities often tend to go under peoples' radars, even anarchists'. These are essentially places where people w/ disabilities work yet get paid FAR below minimum wage. It sends a message that disabled lives are only worth living if they are productive
People with disabilities and the elderly are also often placed in nursing homes which are rife with abuse. Personal autonomy is often restricted and strict schedules must be followed. Strict punishments (taking away basic privileges) are allowed if residents do not comply.
Group/foster homes are unsurprisingly again disproportionally used to house children with disabilities as well as children with "behavioral problems." One study from 2005 found that nearly 1 in 3 foster children reported being abused by a foster parent. https://www.casey.org/northwest-alumni-study/
This is really just the beginning of an anarchist critique on these ableist and ageist institutions. There is much more that can be expanded upon by others.
