This is a great thread. Speaking from experience, since I started making video essays I’ve become actual friends with a few of my favorite YouTubers, and vice versa...
They weren’t anything like I might have expected and I’ve been told the same; you really can’t know someone unless you know them personally. Scripted internet content is just that: scripted.
Anyways, I’m covering this a bit in my next video so I’ll leave the topic alone until then, except to say this: it’s scary to witness parasocial dynamics become more aggressive as the pandemic continues.
