Reading techbros angry about the Google union and thinking. I used to fear tech unions cuz unions are inherently democratic and I feel any poll of the skewed set of people who get the chance to enter and stay in tech (predominantly white, male, upper class) might go... bad (1/5)
However, the Techies Who Are A Problem are *so* poisoned by internalized ideology about unions they are gonna miss out on the chance to be in on the ground floor when workers finally start organizing to represent their collective interests (2/5)
So like, the Google Union didn't *have* to include the non-employee employees who clean the bathrooms and stuff. And if unionized SDEs were acting ONLY for their own benefit, maybe they'd not spend what leverage they have on solidarity efforts with those contractors. (3/5)
But contractors are included in this union because forming the union was left to broad-solidarity socialist leaners. And by the time down-punching class-warfare libertarians wind up in the union, it'll be too late to kick cleaning staff out

Just kinda fascinating. (4/5)
Libertarianism is about self-interest. So are unions! But libertarian leaners don't identify with their own interests, they identify with the interests of capital, even if they're not in the owner class. So they miss up on collective bargaining (a chance to further self-interest)
