There is a bad thread going around so I am going to explain 2 things:

1) the Jeju Uprising was a communist rebellion against the division of Korea and the creation of South Korea via sham UN election. The anticommunist white terror that followed was aided & abetted by the US
2) The ROK’s involvement in Vietnam has to be read through the lens of US empire. The ROK did not have even a liberal democracy during the war. Park Chung-hee let the ROK military be used as a mercenary force under US command & plugged the funds back into capitalist development..
2b) while South Korea absolutely owes reparations to Vietnam & there are military personnel who are responsible for war crimes/should be surrendered to the mercy of the Vietnamese govt, to call ROK’s involvement “korean imperialism” betrays a lack of understanding of many things
