TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Despite the entire teaching profession doing their absolute utmost last term we now face a national crisis that can no longer be ignored. The majority of CHILDREN are going to need to stay at home in order to protect their families from the CORONA VIRUS. 1/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS : This means that we need to focus our efforts and work together in order to ensure that every single child in the UK has access to the EDUCATION they need, within the practical limitations of a prolonged lockdown. 2/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: In an ideal world every child would already have a high quality LAPTOP + high speed INTERNET but we cannot roll these out overnight, we should therefore arrange giving these to EVERY CHILD in the UK if the lockdown is going to last more than 1 month /3
TV-BASED SCHOOLS : In the mean time, we should consider establishing TV-BASED SCHOOLS for every YEAR GROUP as almost all households already have a TELEVISION and can receive new channels with minimal difficulties. 4/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS have already been successfully set up in other countries like PORTUGAL and AUSTRALIA and can provide a core EMERGENCY CURRICULUM which can be expanded and refined over time 5/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS : Any new EMERGENCY CURRICULUM should not attempt to repeat the SCHOOL EXPERIENCE but play to the medium's strengths and draw on the skills and experiences of TEACHERS, BROADCASTERS, ONLINE SERVICES and others quickly, broadly and openly. 6/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Each CHANNEL should be targeted on meeting the specific needs of each YEAR GROUP and offer a range of SUBJECTS, TEACHING / LEARNING STYLES, FUN activities, EXERCISE classes, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT and PRACTICAL ADVICE. USERS should be asked to provide FEEDBACK 7/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Cannot replace SCHOOLS or TEACHERS and all of the course content should be designed to encourage ENGAGEMENT and SUPPORT from LOCAL SCHOOLS in ways that cut out unnecessary duplication + provide core resources that TEACHERS + PUPILS want and enjoy using. 8/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS cannot solve every problem. The CHILDREN OF KEYWORKERS such as those working in HOSPITALS, FIRE STATIONS, SHOPS + other places will need safe, secure + biosecure places for their children to learn. Dedicated SCHOOL PLACES will still be needed to meet this need 9/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS cannot solve the challenges posed by protecting VULNERABLE CHILDREN or those that are MALNOURISHED and DEDICATED schemes will need to be supported in order to meet these needs. TV-BASED SCHOOLS could be used to get messages to such children. 10/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Many talented TEACHERS, dedicated + skilled PROFESSIONALS, loving PARENTS + ingenious ONLINE SERVICES have tried to fill the educational gaps created by the previous LOCKDOWNS. These efforts need to be brought together in ways that are structure + unified. 11/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Other countries have already used TELEVISION to educate their CHILDREN and the UK's @OpenUniversity probably has more experience of making distance learning work than anyone else. We should learn from these + others and apply their lessons for our CHILDREN. 12/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: We should really start to plan for the long haul and develop a LONG-TERM EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY for the UK. CHILDREN should be put at their centre of all efforts and their needs put first. 13/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS : Given the way MONEY has been spent over the past year, with such poor returns, no-one should object to INVESTING in our NATION'S CHILDREN. 14/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: PRIVATE SCHOOLS with CHARITABLE STATUS should consider sharing LESSON PLANS, RESOURCES and SERVICES with their local STATE SCHOOLS which could help to enhance and augment what is possible via TELEVISIONS or others avenues. 15/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: In order to help every child to achieve as much as possible during the lockdown EDUCATIONAL KITS and PACKS should be put together and delivered to homes periodically. These could include BOOKS, STATIONARY, PROJECT IDEAS, COMPETITIONS, GAMES and REWARDS... 16/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: We should avoid re-inventing the wheel, middlemen + cronies. SERVICES that can help with making LAUNCHING CHANNELS, CREATING CONTENT, TEACHING, DESIGNING CURRICULA, SCRIPTING PROGRAMMES, EDITING CONTENT and CO-ORDINATION EFFORT should be paid for their work. 17/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS : Potential BROADCAST PARTNERS such as @bbc @itv @Channel4News @sky should be encourage to compete to make the best content possible and to use their networks to fast track what is possible. 18/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: Potential NEWSPAPER / MAGAZINE PARTNERS could be invited to print special EDITIONS + MAGAZINES for CHILDREN which could enrich everything that's possible via TELEVISION. They have the skills, experience + speed to do this well. See @tes @guardian @pearson 19/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: If you think I have missed any positive SOLUTIONS please add them in the comments below 20/
TV-BASED SCHOOLS: OTHER IDEAS: Over the next few days I'll add some examples have how TELEVISION, RADIO, INTERNET, SCHOOL + PAPER-BASED EDUCATIONAL approaches could be built upon or combined in the UK . 21/
