Seeing a lot of "Trubisky bad" takes because of the lack of deep completions against the Packers yesterday. Let's take a look at every deep pass attempt on Sunday and see how that stacks up.
Q1, first possession, 2'nd & 3 after run, short pass, run, and short pass:
12 personnel, play action, two routes ran deep w/ 7 man protection 😐

Packers have 6 in 3-deep coverage, allowing a double on Allen Robinson AND tight coverage on Mooney while rushing 4
Ultimately just a bad playcall for the defensive situation. Cover-3's vulnerabilities are:
-deep seam between the middle safety and outside zones
-flat

Instead, the deep out is covered and needs PERFECT timing/throw to be anything, checkdown's covered too.
The next "deep attempt" is never attempted, but still -
Q2, first possession, short pass, run, and then:
1st & 10, almost the same exact play as before.
Graham goes from L to R in protection, Arob in the deep middle, WR 2 deep out left. Montgomery play action/checkdown.
Probably worth giving some credit to coaches for responding to the failure of this play previously by swapping out the TE in pass pro with Mooney in the flat in what was an exposed area last time. Packers just one step ahead, anticipating lack of middle attack and sending ILB.
...although it's pretty much inexcusable for the Bears to see a cover-3 zone defense over and over and never be able to scheme a receiver open while the Packers routinely send 4 (or, in this case, 5). Packers learned from the Jags, Bears didn't.
Next drive, 2nd down again after a run and then three short passes in a row.

Basically same play again with 1 change - PA, Graham motions across in protection, right WR still deep curl BUT Mooney with a post route! Not ideal against cover-3 but Trubisky launches a perfect pass.
Look at how tiny of a window that is. This is the type of throw the Bears coaching staff is asking Trubisky to nail on a bootleg from 60+ yards under pressure just to keep the chains moving.
Believe it or not, after connecting for 53 yards, the Bears never attempted a deep shot again the rest of the half, or all of the 3rd quarter...

At the next deep attempt, it's the 4th quarter, 21-16 Packers, and Trubisky's 25/29 for 192 yards (95 rating). Deep shot to Wims...
Who misdiagnoses the inside leverage of the defender and runs the wrong route, looking in after Trubisky's already thrown the out.

Trubisky had completed 20 of his last 21 passes prior, against one of the best passing defenses in the league. Run game was still struggling.
This sets up-
2nd & 10, Nagy calls Montgomery wildcat
3rd & 6, Montgomery for 5

Trubisky sneaks for 4th & 1, next set of downs ends with The Call That Must Not be Named.

Next time Bears get the ball, it's 28-16, 3:46 with Rodgers scoring at will. Game's already over. Then this:
...which is really bad, BUT your options are to throw to:
1- the cover-2 deep seem to your 6'5" TE
2- a bracketed Wims, who doesn't seem to know the play
3- your RB in the middle of the field
4- your 3rd or 4th read, a far-hash quick out for maybe first down with 3:25
"Why not Arob!?" anyone with half a brain asks.

Well, my poor, sad friend, he's schemed out of the play yet again. Whereas before he's blocking, here he just runs a curl in the middle of the zone to seemingly distract the defense with its stupidity.

Terrible decisions from all
The Packers score in three (3) plays.

As a point of reference, here's what it looks like when a QB has an easy window to throw into:
The final deep attempt of the game is in garbage time. The Bears do for the first time what they should've been doing all game, and send Robinson down the sideline.

Trubisky literally could not throw a better pass, Robinson overcomes uncalled DPI for his second catch of the day.
Believe it or not, there used to be a narrative that Trubisky couldn't throw to his left.

There's now a narrative he can't throw deep.🤷‍♂️
