Amy Robinson and Griffin Dunne became producers because they were tired of waiting on parts. They produced Joan Micklin Silverâs CHILLY SCENES OF WINTER before producing AFTER HOURS
according to Robinson she was given the script for AFTER HOURS (then called The Lie) by DuĆĄan Makavejev (!!!!) at the Sundance Film Festivalâs Institute

Robinson showed Marty BABY ITâS YOU and thatâs how Michael Ballhaus was hired. They eventually made seven films together.

they shot all of AFTER HOURS at night completing roughly 16 shots every night
Ballhaus says their crew on AFTER HOURS was about 25-30 people compared to 250 on GANGS OF NEW YORK. They shot AH over 40 nights; GONY over 126 days.
they cut 45 minutes worth of scenes to get the tight comedy timing. Scorsese says itâs the only film where they cut scenes and âitâs too bad audiences didnât get to see themâ
this DVD has a handful of the deleted scenes
Scorsese says after making AFTER HOURS, THE COLOR OF MONEY, and THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST it took him years to get out of debt, but that making those films was like going back to film school
in the making of doc Dunne says at one point Marty storyboarded an ending where Griffin Dunne climbs into Verna Bloomâs womb and then she rebirths him on the West Side Highway
