A small thread on fraud. @thespybrief

Fraud isn't always fraud. Sometimes people honestly forget what they did. December 31th I spoke to a client who was convinced she was robbed. She paid 18 euro's at the supermarket and the same supermarket also charged her for 300 EUR
She was adament that she did not make the transaction herself. She wasn't crazy, was she? I explained to her the transaction was made with her debit card so as long as she had the card with her it was really her.
She didn't believe me. Something was wrong and both the bank and supermarket were wrong. I told her I would do my research and put her on hold.

In Holland we have the NYE lottery. This year a ticket costed 30 EUR.
With this knowledge I confronted her by asking if maybe she bought 10 lottery tickets.

The silence on her side was deafening. As if someone just realized what an ass she made out of herself.
Lesson learned for her. Think when you blame but also a lesson for us. In stressful situations people tend to forget simple things they did.
Never assume the worst. In god we trust, the rest we monitor. @thespybrief
