The news is full of people saying that enforcement of the COVID restrictions doesn't work. That is lazy, stupid, and manslaughtery. That is the exact same argument used against laws prohibiting drunk driving and indoor smoking, and requiring seatbelts and infant seats.
They are saying stupid things that are untrue instead of saying what seems to actually be happening which is that conservative law enforcement officers won't enforce these laws against white people and businesses. The same police who shoot Black people over a loose cigarette.

They say that instead of enforcement we need "education." You know what would be very educational? Arresting these idiots and announcing that these laws are going to be enforced to the full extent of the law. That would educate a lot of people very quickly.
The LAPD (not exactly committed to "educating" law breakers if we are being real) apparently didn't even arrest these maniacs. So all the other maniacs know, if they didn't before, that they can act with impunity. And why not? They are entitled white people.
As an anti-campus rape activist at an elite college, I have heard all the lies about how all these rapes are just big misunderstandings. No punishment needed, just education. Poor #BrockTurner. Enforcing the law on privileged people is just not done. And so it is with COVID-19.
A law that is never enforced is not a law. It is a lie. The more flouting of the law occurs,the less respect people have for the law and the entire legal system, the less the law is followed. We are now experiencing in the form of mass death what flouting the law really means.
Flouting the law is a dangerous game. Our fragile democracy hinges in part on their being some legitimacy to "rule of law." We are going to have may be a million dead by the time this is over, if it ever is, and the deep instability that comes from a broken, biased legal system.

We all know that the LAPD would beat and kill a Black person in that mall for far less offensive conduct. Perhaps for shoplifting. Hundreds of thousands of people are dying of COVID in part due to lack of police enforcing the law. So much for law and order.
