In this new year, here's a thread of organizing that @nycDSA is doing, which gives me a lot of hope. Each of these efforts could use more people to help power them, and each offers opportunities to plug in right away and start organizing for a better city, state, and world.
. @nycDSA has endorsed six candidates for the @NYCCouncil, who together make up the @DSAForTheCity slate: @Adolfo4Council @alexaforcouncil @brandonwestnyc @jaslinforqueens @mike4brooklyn @tiffany_caban. This is the work I'm most active in, so DM me if you want to help this slate.
. @DSAdebtors, along with many partners outside DSA, is driving the #TaxTheRich campaign to pass three new taxes on the wealthy and stand against budget cuts, to fund a future for all New Yorkers. Learn more about the campaign and join the work at https://taxtherichnys.com
. @nycdsa_housing is fighting to make housing a true human right in New York by ending evictions, fully funding public housing, and #CancelRent. NY organizers just won an extension of the eviction moratorium, but there's a lot more to do, beginning tonight: https://twitter.com/nycDSA/status/1345867538937368579
. @nycdsarjwg is fighting to #DefundNYPD, to keep all New Yorkers safe by divesting from the prison industrial complex and investing in community care. Get involved at https://www.defundnypd.com .
. @NYCDSA_Ecosoc are fighting for #PublicPower, working to create a publicly owned, democratically run utility to build a city in which everyone has access to clean energy without fear of cost, shutoffs, or life-threatening pollution. Get involved at https://publicpower.nyc .
If any of these campaigns excite you, I encourage you to reach out, either to me or via the links in the thread. You can also support all these efforts financially by making sure @nycDSA has enough resources to sustain each of these campaigns: https://www.socialists.nyc/chapter-dues
I hope everyone who believes that a better world is possible seeks out the people and organizations who are organizing for that world. That might not be in New York and it doesn't need to be with @DemSocialists, but if what's in this thread inspires you, I hope you'll join us.
