Hi, I'm Calm 'N Cents!

I'm recently separated and going at it on my own.

So, for all of my new followers and my new situation, let me introduce myself!

|| THREAD ||
1. I'm separated.

I'm 35.

I guess I'm technically still married, and have been for 5.5 years.

The wife and I had a disastrous 2020.

I am not an optimist, but I hold hope for a reconciliation in the future.

Love was never the problem.

In the mean time, I'm paddling solo.
2. I'm unemployed.

It was rough, in part, because I lost my job in September.

This undoubtedly added stress to the relationship.

As of now, I am paddling solo on government Employment Insurance as my only income.

You would think I'd be strapped for cash, but...
3. Luckily, I'm frugal.

I am very economical with my money.

I may only make $2,200/month, but my expenses are generally less than that.

It also helps that I have ~$12,000 (~6 months) as an Emergency Fund and that....
4. My house is paid off.

You can chirp me for paying off my mortgage quickly all you want, but not having a mortgage means I can still live here while I job-hunt.

The house is valued at around $360,000, which means I will be able to add half to my investments when we sell.
5. I also have NO debt.

I control every penny I make.

Not one cent goes to mandatory debt payments.

THIS is financial freedom.

Don't underestimate it.
6. I invest in index ETFs.

Currently, as a solo paddler, I have a portfolio of $55,000.

Not great, but not terrible.

The prospect of adding to it always keeps me moving forward.

Indexes are my specialty because of their diversity and I don't have to analyze individual stocks.
7. I have a number of interests.

There are, in fact, people behind these Twitter accounts.

People with hobbies.

I enjoy:

- Reading
- Writing prose and poetry
- Walks
- Cooking
- Lifting weights
- Deep thinking

All introvert activities because I am just that. Introverted.
8. But I have my flaws.

We all do.

I need to come to terms with mine.

- I am negative.
- I dislike change.
- I have a temper.
- I forget to be nice to others.
- I forget to be nice to myself.

I know these led to my marital issues. I regret them.

I need to fix them for me.
9. But there are good things, too.

- I may not show emotion, but I have them in spades.
- I do enjoy improving and learning.
- I am brutally honest.

I may not grow and improve and learn as quick as some may wish, but it does happen.

If you aren't growing, you're shrinking.
10. I appreciate all of you.

The support you've provided over the last 3 months has been immense.

The encouragement in the wake of my problems has been overwhelming.

I am happy you've joined me.

Now, let's do some great things this year!đź’Ş
