So I read that Meghan McCain is back on The View and supports maternity leave (after her own birthing experience) but not right now for men. A family leave that only women can take not only reinforces harmful gender roles, but is not inclusive of what a family is or can be.
That's why we should have "family leave". Pregnant people need the time to recover (not only women give birth). People who give birth don't want/need the full leave but their partner might. Some might not give birth at all and need time for adoption/fostering transition
Additionally there are families who need family leave to care for a sick family member or adult dependent. My husband got the time off from his uber conservative bosses (no questions asked) to care for his mom for several weeks.
Anyways, after watching this pandemic force many women in hetero relationships out of the workplace because we still don't hold men nearly as accountable for taking leave/caring for children or family members. I'm fundamentally against leave policy that doesn't include everyone
