In 2020, the black share of the vote in Georgia fell to its lowest level since 2006. Wasn't Abrams going around the country raising money to prevent this outcome?
It seems like because Democrats won anyway, Abrams could just claim victory, even though she did not achieve what many donors believed she was going to achieve.
So if the black share of the vote goes up - Abrams gets credit
If the black share of the vote goes down - Abrams also gets credit? https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1334882364351188996?lang=en
I think the story of Georgia is pretty simple, Metro ATL has a lot of the voters Chuck Schumer is seeking: educated suburbanites, who came in seeking jobs/cheap housing over the past decade. A lot of those people were turned off by Trump. Enough to notch wins for Democrats.
The only places Democrats are really gaining down ballot is Metro ATL. If they were seeing a massive surge in black voters many donors gave $ to Abrams to produce, it would presumably change South Georgia's political makeup.
This is just the presidential election but it would be more pronounced in the state legislative races
This has been the story of the whole Trump era, because turnout for Republicans increased too, base turnout is not what was flipping elections to Democrats, persuasion was. Also explains GOP gains with minorities https://www.persuasion.community/p/a-leftist-dream-just-died
