words like "extremist", "radical", "terrorist" etc. are used to dehumanise muslims all over the world. delete these words from your vocabulary. if anybody uses these words seriously, they are not your ally.

if a muslim commits a crime somewhere, use the same words for them that are used for non-muslims (criminal, highly disturbed individual, etc.) using the word "extremist" conveys that there is a "bad/extreme" form of islam and a "good/moderate" form. THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

islam is islam. there is no "good" or "bad" islam. using the word "extremist" conveys the opposite, and therefore its use should be avoided.
