Changing my jokes from "I suck" to "I'm awesome" did wonders for my mental health and I highly recommend it. https://twitter.com/cathartictrips/status/1345567619919843337
Ok so we've slowly been watching Shark Tank and still only on season 7 and I really don't know anything about the Sharks so they could be garbage people SO WITH ALL THAT ASIDE...y'all ever noticed how Kevin O'Leary is completely unflappable when teased?
Someone's joking about how he's bald? "My hair is amazing." Someone teases him about how he's the meanest guy there? "I'm Mr. Wonderful, I'm the nicest person on the planet."
He will laugh along at any barbs and also counter, straight-faced, that he's amazing. He doesn't say they're wrong, he just says, "Yes, I'm awesome," like they were giving him a compliment and not saying anything ironically.
And it's still funny, he's still taking the joke, everyone is still laughing. You can still be funny and make the joke but just spin it so you're delusionally confident instead of self-deprecating.
I'm so tired of people (and let's be honest, it's not often cis men) punching down on themselves as a joke. I catch myself doing it too, and I hate it.
And what is the expected response? Laugh along, thereby agreeing? Get serious and say "YOU ARE NOT HUMAN GARBAGE DON'T YOU EVER SAY THAT ABOUT YOURSELF"?
So I encourage folks to try flipping the joke around from "I'm a piece of shit lol" to "I'm fucking awesome, why wouldn't I be?"
