It's looking like the gov is going to change tack (press conference and recall of Parliament are a bit of a clue) so let's plan to make life more predictable. Uncertainty is stressful though we need to reduce doubt where we can. 1
School attendance has been lower than usual. In Tonbridge at least one year group has been out since schools returned in Sep 20. That means exams currently planned would be unfair to many. We need an alternative. 2
After the vaccine roll out in coming weeks we will be in a different environment. So what should we be planning for? After remote teaching, we will need to assess the achievements and abilities of students fairly to all. 3
Recognising students' achievements and abilities despite the interruptions to their education will require teachers' input but what would help ensure confidence in the assessment? Local juries? Online tests? 4
We have (very) little time to rethink the way we're going to grade students. To build trust we need @educationgovuk to be open with plans so those employing ex-students or allocating places in further and higher education can be sure they're making the right calls. 5
So students and families can be confident their efforts have been fairly recognised we need a bold reset so teachers can plan, students prepare and employers/further educators understand what they'll be assessing. We need to be as predictable as possible, starting now. 6
