"We have a lot of experience with people coming here to protest," says @MayorBowser about Wednesday's pro-Trump demonstrations. "We are urging D.C. residents and people from around the region to avoid the downtown area."
"We will not allow people to incite violence, intimidate our residents or cause destruction in our city," adds Bowser.
New @DCPoliceDept Chief Robert Contee says that signage has been placed around downtown D.C. telling people that carrying guns is illegal. "Anyone in violation of D.C. law will be arrested," he says.
Contee says the National Guard will be assisting MPD for "crowd management" and traffic control starting tomorrow and running through Wednesday.
Worth noting that D.C. National Guard will not be armed, per Bowser's request for assistance.
