Keith’s vision of an emerging tech ecosystem places CAPITAL at the center (specifically reckless angel capital) which is at odds with the history of tech ecosystems being driven by institutions (SV, Boston). https://twitter.com/ianhathaway/status/1346078932957728769
Pop histories of SV might start with Shockley’s move to the Bay Area and then the traitorous eight but historical work shows there were investments in the radio community that laid the foundation for semiconductor manufacturing
If people want to move to Miami, that’s certainly their right and I think the US would benefit from a tech industry with a wider geographical footprint. That said, I’m not sold on the centrality of capital to building an ecosystem.
Of course this whole discussion suffers from a lack of specificity. What’s success? A few founders moving? One unicorn? Almost every major city in the US has those now.
