Interview Prep Thread -

So you've spent hours working on your resume. You finally got a callback. Congrats!

Now what?

You consider yourself not a strong speaker so you're nervous about how to prepare for your upcoming interviews.

This thread will help! (1/n)
Step 1 - Re-read the JD

You just applied to 100s of jobs, I promise you, you don't remember the full JD. Go back and look at it again.

Now, pull out the bullet points. Create a strengths and weaknesses chart and place the bullet points in them.

This will help you later. (2/n)
Step 2 - Review the company

This is the research phase. Start looking into the company's products more. Read the mission and vision statements.

Read their blog. Watch a couple videos.

Gather as much information as you can so you can understand how to present yourself. (3/n)
Step 3a - Develop a pitch

Using your past experiences, it's time to develop a pitch. Use the STAR method to organize your pitch.

Make sure your pitch is relevant to the job. This isn't the time to describe everything you've done in your life. Stay on topic. (4/n)
Step 3b - Refine your pitch

Using strengths and weaknesses chart, refine your pitch. Make sure you highlight how your experiences feed into your strengths that are mentioned in the JD.

For the weaknesses, make sure you're ready to speak on how you're working to improve. (5/n)
Step 4 - Find a partner and practice

Recite your pitch to a mentor or someone who is experienced at interviewing.

Have them brainstorm and ask you practice questions related to the role and company. (6/n)
Step 5 - Develop your list of interview questions

9/10, the interviewer will leave time for questions. Come prepared!

Ask the tough questions related to DEI, finances, remote work, team interactions, etc. Ask the interviewer about their experiences. (7/n)
Step 6 - Journal your interview experience

Make sure you write down how you felt before, during, and after the interview stage.

Write down things you felt went well vs. needs improvement. Write down important info you learned. Write down how people made you feel. (8/n)
Step 7 - Rinse and Repeat

For each stage of the interview process, you will want to start this process over until it comes natural to you.

Before ending the 1st interview, you want to make sure you understand what the future stages will entail so you can properly prepare. (9/n)
