before i make this, i just wanna say this:
anyone who hates on this thread is the reason why i’m making it. a beef is not a reason to disregard talent. i’m not the no.1 MGK stan but i’ve been following him for years and i do like his music. he’s quite underrated for what he is.

Richard Colson Baker, mainly known as Machine Gun Kelly, is an artist from Cleveland, Ohio. he’s been making music for years and there’s this sort of stigma about him that i see a lot online, especially this app and i’d like to change that by showing a different side to him.
the wild boy:
in 2012 MGK released lace up. he seems like the average white rapper until you hear the first drop; that song stood out because it showed that he knew how to maintain energy on a track, without making the whole song just be fast rap, like many white rappers did then

sidenote: i’m not trying to make anything about race, that’s just legitimately what it was like in 2012.
The Alpha Omega:
in 2015 he released general admission and this album certainly showed potential in his bars, because he had a lot of them, however the instrumentals weren’t on par with the lyrics and i think if he worked on that it would have been a staple in his discography.

The Gunner:
in 2017 kells released bloom and i love how he’s named this album because this album shows him essentially “blooming” as an artist and showing a lot more versatility. he’s showing that he can sing, play guitar but he can still go hard on trap bangers.

The Rap Devil:
in late 2018 MGK released a diss track on someone who was once his idol, eminem. he got an enormous amount of backlash and i think after some time, it really took a toll on him mentally. i think the beef was a mistake on both ends but it really backfired on colson.

a low point:
soon after the beef MGK released an EP called binge. it received lukewarm reviews from critics, but i’ll say this, binge isn’t supposed to be full of bars, it’s just a fun project with club bangers. also, he REALLY stepped it up with the instrumentals on this one.

magnum opus:
on july 5th (my birthday) 2019, MGK released his best piece of work and one of the best albums of 2019 in my opinion. Hotel Diablo. i’m gonna extend this part of the thread because this album is so good. this is Machine Gun Kelly at his most raw. (1)

this album portrays a really good case of versatility. it’s impossible to box this man into a genre. a true artist. from bangers like el diablo with quick flows to emo-trap songs like candy, songs that wanna make you cry like glass house to rock songs like i think i’m okay. (2)
whenever someone tells me what they should listen to, to get into MGK i always recommend this because an amazing piece of work. it didn’t sell as well as albums to come, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he took his pain and made it into something that is so beautiful. (3)
lockdown sessions:
fun fact, MGK was statistically more relevant in 2020 than any other year of this career. these videos showed him embracing his rock side a lot more. my mind was blown away by misery business. i love paramore and seeing him bring this genre back was refreshing.

leap of faith:
MGK released TTMD last year and scored his first no1 album and sold 126,000 copies first week. TTMD is nothing short of a great pop punk album and further cemented the fact that you can’t box MGK in one genre, he will always break out. he finally seems happy here.
